A look back on the 2024 H2F Symposium from Sarah Ray, Human Performance Program Specialist and Senior Account Executive within the Teamworks Tactical Division.

Stepping into the bustling halls of the 2024 US Army Holistic Health and Fitness Symposium, I was struck by the energy and passion surrounding me. From the keynote speeches to the panel discussions, every moment was filled with insights and revelations about the future of soldier readiness.

“H2F exists so we can be ready to do the hard things.”

One quote that particularly resonated with me came from Sgt. Michael Weimer, Maj. of the Army. He stated, “H2F exists so we can be ready to do the hard things.” His words encapsulated the event’s core ethos: preparing soldiers physically, mentally, and emotionally for the challenges ahead.

As I sat through the sessions and chatted with attendees during breaks, it became clear that we all recognize that holistic health and fitness is about more than just exercise routines; it’s about nurturing every aspect of a soldier’s well-being. Maj. Gen. John Kline’s update on the fielding of H2F Performance Teams highlighted the importance of personalized care and timely interventions. Notably, Kline described a pilot project aimed at developing an H2F data management system, expressing a wishlist of capabilities and stating expressly, “This is where we need help from industry.”

The vision of this H2F Data Management System pilot closely aligns with the outcomes shared by Maj. Allison Brager during her presentation on the sleep domain. Brager emphasized the significance of comprehensive data tracking for soldiers’ physical, mental, and spiritual performance throughout their careers, showcasing outcomes and capabilities demonstrated by SOCOM’s Human Performance Data Management System, powered by Teamworks AMS. This convergence of perspectives underscores the collective commitment to leveraging technology and data to support the well-being of service members, a commitment that Teamworks Tactical shares in its mission to revolutionize soldier support throughout their lifecycle.

Nutrition and its Impact on Soldier Performance

One striking takeaway from the symposium was the emphasis on nutrition and its impact on soldier performance. Weimer’s candid remarks about the challenges of changing the culture around nutrition hit home for me. He remarked, “Strength coach says I can get them to buy into anything except eating well.” It highlights the need for innovative solutions, like those offered by Teamworks Nutrition, which provides personalized nutrition planning and education to optimize performance.

Dr. Andrew Thompson’s data-driven presentation further underscored the importance of H2F in reducing injuries and enhancing deployability. His assertion that “We should be providing a tool so that every single soldier has access to a Human Performance Team” underscores the necessity for seamless access to care.

As the symposium drew to a close, I couldn’t help but feel inspired by the dedication and commitment of everyone in attendance. Despite the challenges ahead, there was a palpable sense of optimism about the future of soldier readiness. Reflecting on my experience, I couldn’t help but see the strong alignment between the symposium’s goals and the mission of Teamworks Tactical, a shared commitment to revolutionizing soldier support throughout their lifecycle.
