Former DIII Athletic Director Joins Teamworks

Read Time: 3 mins

Collegiate athletics is getting harder and harder every day. The job really is to find ways to work smarter, not harder, and I believe Teamworks is that answer.

Angie Torain

Senior Business Development Executive at Teamworks, and Former UChicago Director of Athletics

Teamworks is excited to welcome Angie Torain as Senior Business Development Executive, focused in the small college space supporting DII, DIII, NAIA, and 2 year colleges. Torain brings nearly two decades of collegiate athletics experience, spanning conference administration, the NCAA, and campus leadership, to her new role.

Background and Athletics Expertise

Torain’s career spans nearly every level of collegiate athletics — from student-athlete at DePauw University (DIII) to conference administration, NCAA enforcement, and senior leadership roles at IU Indianapolis, the University of the Incarnate Word, and the University of Notre Dame. Most recently, she served five years as Director of Athletics and Recreation at the University of Chicago, overseeing 20 varsity sports, nearly 40 sport clubs, and an intramural program serving thousands of students annually. In that role, she also led the department’s diversity and inclusion efforts and partnered with Alumni Relations and Development on philanthropic initiatives.

Why Angie Joined Teamworks

For Torain, the decision to join Teamworks was rooted in genuine belief in the platform. “I truly believe it’s the one platform and software that really understands what administration is like,” she says. “People think you just come to work and show up and go to games. There’s so much on the operational side that people don’t see, and this platform truly helps bring everything together so you can save time.” When the opportunity to join Teamworks arose, she didn’t hesitate. “It felt right. It was something I believed in, and something I knew I wanted to use my talents to help others think about.”

Angie’s Prior Experience with Teamworks

Torain’s familiarity with Teamworks predates her new role. At Notre Dame, she was part of the initial implementation team, helping bring the platform across compliance, recruiting, HR, and facilities. At UChicago, she helped build the budget case for adoption before overseeing its use across compliance, student worker management, and camps and clinics. Having experienced the platform from both ends of the implementation process, she has a clear view of the value it delivers, particularly for departments managing high operational load with lean staffing.

Torain is particularly energized by what Teamworks can mean for the Division II and Division III community. “Division II and Division III administrators work extremely hard to serve their athletes, coaches, and staff; while also thinking about budgets, compliance, the changing landscape of athletics and athletes’ individual needs.”

Her goal is to help those departments find a smarter path forward — one that frees up time for the work that matters most. “What you really want to do is spend more time with your staff, your coaches, and your student athletes. If you’re draining yourself focused on worksheets and tracking down rosters, you don’t have time to be strategic and think and work at a higher level. I would love to help Division II and Division III institutions find their way in that space.”

A Message to Division II and Division III Administrators

For athletic directors navigating an increasingly complex landscape, Torain’s perspective is grounded in her own experience on the administrative side. “Be open to change, be open to just listen. It’s not even about the technology alone, it’s about everything that keeps getting thrown at you. If there is a platform that can help you take care of those things and limit burnout, take a chance.”

Torain’s appointment reflects Teamworks’ ongoing commitment to serving Division II and Division III institutions.
