One Place, In Real Time

The final buzzer goes off, and the question in our heads was never about the game we’d just watched (well, maybe a tiny bit if it was a euphoric win or a tough loss!). It was about tomorrow. What’s the status of our player who limped off mid-game? Who’s actually ready to play? Who needs a lighter session. Who needs to see someone before shootaround. Who needs to be on a minute restriction?
For the decade I spent in an NBA front office, mostly as Assistant GM for Strategy and Analytics with the Washington Wizards, that question could take awhile to get a real answer to.
I want to be upfront: I was never a performance practitioner. I didn’t build training programs or run the medical side. But every front office decision – roster construction, cap planning, whether a guy could handle a back-to-back, whether we needed to call-up someone from the G League – depended on answers reaching us fast enough to use it. If it didn’t, we all felt its impact.
Here’s what I always dreamed of: one place where that answer already existed by the time we needed it. Not five phone calls, a group text, or multiple follow-up emails.
Everything's Connected
That place exists now. Teamworks calls it the Unified Mobile App, and the idea is straightforward: one app, one login, for the entire organization instead of a separate tool for every department.
Picture the buzzer scenario again, but connected. The game ends, an athlete’s readiness and injury status updates, which may then impact the nutrition, strength, and player development plan for the next day, and that update doesn’t sit in a training room waiting for someone to relay it. It shows up in the same place as tomorrow’s training time, the strength and conditioning session, and the nutrition plan, because all of it already runs on the same connected data underneath.
The same idea, over an entire offseason
What you’re about to watch is the offseason version of that same idea: one athlete’s training, strength and conditioning, and nutrition data moving together across an entire summer instead of living in three places that don’t talk to each other. Watch it, then picture that same connected data showing up the next morning after a game, not just during an offseason build-up.

Where I ended up
I’ve since seen this from the inside, at Teamworks, and I’ll say the obvious part plainly: I wish I’d had it when I was still in an NBA front office. The data underneath it is already embedded across the Big 4 leagues, the NFL, the NBA, the NHL, and MLB, and expanding into MLS, the WNBA, the NWSL, and the USL. The Unified Mobile App is how that connected data actually reaches a phone or a PDF on someone’s desktop in real time instead of staying locked inside someone else’s dashboard.
To the people who actually generate this information
I wasn’t the one producing this information. Performance directors, strength coaches, athletic trainers, and dietitians were, and my guess is any disconnect could cost you the most, because you’re the source, not just someone waiting on the other end of it.
I’m writing this because I was the guy a couple seats over who wanted your world to move faster than it did, and I’ve now seen what it looks like when it can.
