Adopting Teamworks to Enhance the Club’s Move into a New Training Facility

Melbourne City Football Club was established in 2009 and is part of the City Football Group. The club has built a reputation as one of Australia’s best on and off the pitch with a proud history of youth development and on-pitch success for both men’s and women’s teams. As the club transitioned to a new state-of-the-art facility, the need to enhance operational efficiency across all teams became paramount for all stakeholders. Navigating the complexities of such a move led Pedj Radinovic, General Manager Football Operations at Melbourne City FC and his team to choose Teamworks Hub and AMS as their trusted operations and performance platform.

We heard from Pedj in an exclusive Q&A interview:

Q: What was the original problem you were trying to solve ahead of engaging with Teamworks? How were you trying to address this previously?

We were looking to find a technology solution for all of our team operations that could be integrated across the whole club. We operate across eight teams and a significant number of other programs. We used various other platforms previously, but as we moved into a new training facility, we wanted to find a platform that was the best fit for our needs. It was clear that Teamworks was a great fit as they really understand how professional and academy teams operate.

Q: Please describe your experience with the Teamworks implementation process and the support from our customer success team.

A: The implementation process was very seamless. We implemented Teamworks during the season for our two professional teams and six academy teams, and the guidance provided by the customer success team was excellent as the system was well received by our staff, players and parents. We hit the ground running immediately.

Q: Melbourne City FC have recently moved into a new world class training facility, how has Teamworks Hub helped to drive operational efficiency with this move?

A: Similar to the new facility, it has brought everyone together on the one platform. We operate across 8 football teams and utilise 5 pitches for all our teams. The platform has allowed us to digitise all our scheduling, pitch usage, travel, player appearances and communications in one platform to ensure that all players and staff are across everything that is relevant to them. It has the flexibility to quickly make changes so communication is streamlined effectively across the relevant groups.

Q: Within the Teamworks Hub platform, what are the most popular modules at Melbourne City FC and why?

A: The travel module has been incredibly helpful. We have multiple teams that travel at various times and the module allows us to digitise the itinerary specific for those travelling groups. It’s helped us navigate any late changes (eg. flight cancellations) and keep everyone informed efficiently through the one platform.

Q: The club is also about to commence using Teamworks AMS for its Performance and Medical needs. Describe why it is important to Melbourne City FC to have integrated technology solutions at the clubs disposal.

A: It is very important for us to have an integrated solution for our staff and players to manage all our operations, performance and medical needs, especially as it is tailored to our needs. It ensures we can operate more efficiently, with ready access to all our information that enables us to make better decisions and informed strategies for our program.

Q: What advice would you give to another professional Football team looking to start using Teamworks?

A: We would strongly recommend that teams explore Teamworks for their team as our experience has been excellent as it is set up for professional sporting teams with the capability to be tailored to your individual needs.
