In college athletics, nutrition plays a crucial role in performance, but not every program has the same resources to deliver it at scale. Whether teams are supported by a full-time dietitian or relying on performance staff to guide fueling, Teamworks Nutrition helps close the gap.
Teamworks Nutrition includes access to elite-level support through Teamworks Dietitian Services. As a whole, Teamworks is supported by a team of 10 Registered Dietitians who collectively bring over 70 years of experience. This expert support equips athletes with sport-specific fueling plans, dietitian-led education, and performance-focused goal tracking, making it easier to deliver nutrition guidance to all athletes.
Across every school accessing Dietitian Services, we’re seeing the same thing: athletes and staff desiring more nutrition education to help fuel their performance and overall well-being. It has been exciting to bring these new resources that empower athletes to grow their nutrition knowledge while at the same time help advocate for the role of a dietitian on campuses who have limited exposure,” said Beth McCall, MS, RD, CSSD, Performance Dietitian at Teamworks.
In-App Education: Making Nutrition Accessible, Anytime
The in-app education within Teamworks Nutrition is designed to meet athletes where they are, delivering short videos and performance lessons they can access at any time. These lessons support everyday nutritional decisions—from pre-lift fueling to smart choices in the dining hall.
Florida Tech staff noted the accessibility and visuals of the education materials as standout features. “Just having visual stuff is definitely a lot easier. These scholar-athletes have so much on their plates when it comes to schoolwork. They might not be into tracking everything down to a T, so being able to take five minutes to look through resources and get ideas is key,” said Alexis Kapsambelis, Assistant Director of Sports Performance.
“The accessibility is huge for our athletes,” added Melissa Wieand, Associate Athletic Trainer. “Having the resources available at any time without requiring logging every meal makes it more manageable.”
Live Education Sessions: Real-Time Guidance from Experts
As part of Dietitian Services, live education sessions are led by Teamworks Dietitians, offering athletes direct access to expert guidance on topics like recovery meals, pre-game fueling, and hydration.
“Our athletes loved being able to ask questions in real time—especially things our sports medicine or strength staff might not know. It helped them visualize what to eat before and after games and made it easier for coaches to focus on key areas. Since the live session, we’ve seen a real improvement in how the team is fueling throughout the day,” said Kapsambelis.
Sport-Specific Meal Plans
Teamworks Dietitians develop customized meal plans tailored to each athlete’s sport, position, and season. There is an additional layer to capture common dietary restrictions and preferences. These plans empower athletes with ideas on how to fuel optimally and consistently for their sport.
“Some of our athletes have allergies or intolerances—gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan—and they appreciated how they could filter based on their needs. It made the guidance feel more personal and practical,” Kapsambelis shared.
One-on-One Nutrition Support
Teamworks Nutrition is expanding athlete access to personalized nutrition support through an in-app “Request Dietitian Support” feature, allowing athletes to ask direct questions, receive tailored education and set personalized nutrition goals. In addition to this service, Teamworks Nutrition is building referral networks to local dietitians for each campus. This comprehensive approach ensures athletes receive individualized guidance and dietitian expertise precisely when they need it most.
“We’re not nutritionists,” said Wieand. “We’re athletic trainers and performance staff who took maybe two semesters of nutrition in school. The ability to refer athletes to a dietitian through Teamworks Nutrition is invaluable. It provides peace of mind for us and real expertise for the athletes.”
Teamwide Visibility & Engagement
Florida Tech has started integrating Teamworks Nutrition into team culture, from adding reminders in daily to-do lists to using Teamworks task bars. “Some coaches make checking into the app a daily task. It doesn’t just encourage use, it makes it part of the routine,” said Kapsambelis.
Athletes, too, have been engaging more consistently. “Probably 60% of our athletes check in regularly,” said Wieand. “Some just open it and check in, but others explore the resources, track meals, and use recipes for grocery shopping or meal planning.”
Lasting Impact: Personalized Support, Built to Last
“It’s very individualized, which is nice. Athletes can pick and choose what works for them, whether it’s tracking every meal, logging snacks, or just checking education resources. It’s something they can use whenever they need it, without having to make an appointment or add more to their already packed schedules,” said Kapsambelis.
“From injuries to energy gaps, we see nutrition as a contributing factor, and Teamworks Nutrition gives us a real tool to guide athletes better,” added Wieand.
From individual goal setting to team-wide education, Teamworks Nutrition enables nutrition support for every athlete in a way that is practical, personalized, and impactful.
