Listening to Simon, Leonard and Dan was a great opportunity to learn about recent trends in various sports. It was refreshing for me to be able to interact with people from various sports.

Teamworks officially launches in Japan

Teamworks officially launched in Japan last week, hosting its first ever event in the market at the brand new Toyota Arena in Tokyo. Over 50 sports practitioners from across organisations and disciplines came together for an afternoon of networking and learning, focused on how technology, data and analytics are shaping the future of sport.

The afternoon combined networking, candid discussion, and deep learning from some of the sharpest minds working at the intersection of sport and data. It was the first Teamworks event in Japan, and it set a high bar.

The agenda

Three speakers shaped the afternoon, each bringing a distinct perspective on what it means to use data intelligently in modern sport.

Simon Moore Crouch, VP & GM, International Sport, Teamworks, opened the event with the origin story of Teamworks,  tracing two decades of growth and the remarkable footprint the platform now holds across sport globally.

Dan Cervone, VP, Data Science at Teamworks and Co-founder of Zelus Analytics, delivered a keynote on Winning in the AI Era, laying out the playbook that separates successful teams from the rest.

The playbook — what winning teams do:

1: Get the best available data — the foundation everything else is built on.

2: Predict, don’t describe — great analytics looks forward, not just backward [learn more here]

3:  Build organisational trust — data only creates value when people act on it.

We are truly delighted to be in Japan to officially launch our presence in this market. Japan sports is hungry to be part of the data analytics revolution in sports, and we cannot wait to see what we can achieve working with some of the most innovative organisations in this market.

Leonard Yang, Technical Product Manager at Teamworks, brought it to life with a deep dive into advanced analytics,  including his direct work supporting Team Japan at the World Baseball Classic.

From the room

The feedback from attendees captured exactly the spirit the event was designed to create.

The blend of global perspective and local relevance, particularly Leonard’s work at the World Baseball Classic with Team Japan, gave the afternoon a grounded quality that resonated across sports and roles in the room.

Japan is ready for this conversation. The energy in the room at Toyota Arena confirmed what Teamworks already believed: that the country’s sports organisations are not waiting to be part of the data revolution — they are actively looking for the right partners to help them lead it.
