Pikeville Sets the Standard in NAIA

The University of Pikeville didn’t stumble into becoming one of the most technologically advanced athletic departments in the NAIA. They chose it.

When Athletic Director Corey Fipps and his staff set their sights on building a truly connected department, they weren’t patching a problem, they were pursuing a vision. Pikeville has gone all in on the Teamworks ecosystem, adopting Hub, Compliance + Recruiting, AMS, Academics, and most recently, EMR across their entire department.

“Teamworks has allowed us to reimagine what a small college athletic department can look like,” says Fipps. “Through our partnership with Teamworks we’ve been able to expand our usage to cover almost every aspect that our student athletes need.”

One Ecosystem for Every Touchpoint

What Pikeville has built is rare at any level. From the moment a recruit enters the system, their journey is connected — tracked through Compliance + Recruiting, formalized with a scholarship agreement signed on the platform, and carried forward through every layer of the student-athlete experience. When a Pikeville athlete uses Teamworks, they check their practice and class schedule, sign in to study hall, book treatment with the athletic training staff, review travel itineraries, and stay connected with their team, all in one place.

“Teamworks is a part of everything we do,” Fipps says. “We love how our student athletes have one place they can go to see everything that they need.”

That seamless experience is what sets Pikeville apart. Their athletes don’t navigate between different systems to access their program. They have one home for all of it. For Fipps, the goal was never just operational efficiency. It was about the quality of experience his student athletes receive on campus.

“It gives our student athletes a big time collegiate Division I experience through the management piece that no other small college athlete gets to experience.”

Achieving that level of integration takes a department willing to keep asking more of the platform they’ve invested in. For Fipps, that push has always been rooted in what his student athletes need most.

“Teamworks has been terrific about customizing everything to our needs. That personal touch has made us feel like we can change the site to fit our student athletes and our institution’s needs instead of trying to fit within the software.”

Built to Grow

Pikeville’s partnership with Teamworks deepened over time, driven by a willingness to keep investing in what was working. Each expansion of the platform was a deliberate step, rooted in Pikeville’s belief that the right tools could keep raising the bar for their student athletes.

“It feels great to be an innovator,” Fipps says, “but even better to have a partnership with a company like Teamworks that is willing to assist us in providing our student athletes and coaches with a product that fits our needs, is easy to use, and is a one stop shop for everything we do.”

That kind of trust, built product by product, year by year, is what makes Pikeville’s ecosystem something more than a tech stack. It’s a reflection of how the department thinks about its student athletes.

A Model Worth Following

Pikeville has shown that innovation in collegiate athletics isn’t reserved for the biggest programs. It belongs to whoever is willing to lead.

“I would encourage every athletic department to invest in themselves and their student athletes by partnering with Teamworks,” Fipps says. “The ease of use and willingness to meet our current needs are what we really love about Teamworks, and we think our peers in the association will love that too.”
