The Gulf South Conference (GSC), a powerhouse in NCAA Division II athletics, announces a conference-wide partnership with Teamworks. This collaboration will implement Teamworks‘ Compliance + Recruiting platform across all 12 member institutions, positioning the GSC as one of the first five conferences to become an early adopter in leveraging technology to create efficiencies.
Empowering Compliance Through Technology
Matt Wilson, Commissioner of the Gulf South Conference, emphasized the strategic importance of this decision: „This partnership with Teamworks is like adding an employee without actually hiring one. It’s a robust tool that will effectively help our institutions coordinate across campus, from financial aid to the registrar, admissions, and athletic staff.“
The move comes as a response to the increasing complexity of compliance work in collegiate athletics. Andrea Anderson, Assistant Commissioner for Compliance and Events, highlighted the challenges faced by compliance officers: „At the Division II level, they’re overwhelmed, overworked, and understaffed. This brilliant move gives them the support they need as we consider the transformational change that Division II is going through.“
Leading the Way in Division II
The Gulf South Conference’s decision to adopt Teamworks conference-wide places it among the first five conferences to make such a move, showcasing its commitment to innovation and leadership in Division II athletics.
„Innovating and being early adopters in technology is important to the Gulf South Conference because of where we see ourselves in the Division II landscape,“ Wilson stated. „We really feel like we should be leading when things are happening, and if there’s an opportunity, we can do that.“
Miles Gallagher, Sr. Business Development Executive at Teamworks, shares a similar sentiment: „It’s not every day you get to see a conference-wide partnership. We are honored to work with the Gulf South Conference to help support them in leading through innovation and empowering their member institutions.“
Unifying Diverse Institutions
One of the key benefits of this partnership is its ability to bring together the diverse range of institutions within the GSC. Anderson explained, „We have private, we have public, we have state institutes – we have a little bit of everything. This platform will bring something to our smallest schools and to our largest programs, pulling them all together.“
Enhancing Efficiency and Collaboration
Jason Olivera, Assistant Commissioner for Communications, highlighted the importance of technology in the conference’s strategy: „Innovation and technology are super important to the Gulf South Conference because resources are limited, and technology as a whole is the way things are shifting, particularly in Division II and college athletics.“
A Collaborative Spirit
The partnership with Teamworks goes beyond just providing software. Wilson praised the collaborative approach: „We’re thankful that Teamworks saw the value in partnering with the Gulf South Conference and supporting our institutions in that way. Lots of people want to partner, but they don’t always have a true collaborative spirit when they seek to make these types of partnerships.“
Looking Ahead
As the Gulf South Conference embarks on this new chapter, the focus remains on supporting its member institutions and staying at the forefront of technological advancements in collegiate athletics. This partnership with Teamworks represents not just an investment in technology, but an investment in the people who make the Gulf South Conference a leader in Division II athletics.
